Retaining and Attracting Talent in Good Times and Bad

Challenge: This financial services company, doing business in an extremely competitive market, was concerned remuneration levels for their top executives were no longer competitive with the market. They worried about attracting and retaining top talent and did not feel comfortable simply using generalized pay data.

Approach: GECN team members go beyond the data in whatever geography they are working. To that end, for this client, the GECN Europe team started with level benchmarking and then customized benchmarking based on the design and structure of fixed and variable compensation. Various surveys were used, including Club Surveys for specific compensation issues, as well as alternative compensation designs.

Results: Based on the review of various data sources, the team prepared qualitative and quantitative analyses, including modelling, that allowed the client to consider various options, including a phantom share program, and ultimately designed a pay strategy going forward that contributed to better retention and recruitment while better aligning pay and performance.
